Easton Software Index
Easton developed the Easton Software Index, an industry that has become increasingly
intertwined with information. Our rankings are based on market back research, financial
analyses, and competitive evaluations, all related to the position and performance
dimensions used in the Easton Information Index.
These were 76 firms who derived the bulk of their revenues and
profits from packaged software (i.e. included Microsoft and Oracle but not IBM, HP or Apple).
We excluded firms of less than ~$20 million in the interest of efficiency.
We recognize that there are likely very good firms in the smaller size category,
but the firms we chose for the analysis represent the bulk of the packaged software
business based on revenues.
The Easton Software Index shows very substantial variation in historical performance and
recent results among the companies. Will these variations continue in the future? We will
be tracking the performance of this new packaged software index as well as the information
index. Our expectation is that the structure we use to evaluate or help develop strategies
will prove useful here as well.
